about me

‘I’m currently exploring blue as a colour, as a state of mind, as a state of being. I filter emotions and human identity in relation and refraction of the colour blue, while assigning different shades of this specific colour to my creative moods. Blue can be exuberant, calm, equally sad and maddening poetic. It is a colour in between. Over the last three years I have been painting almost exclusively with this colour, chasing the nuances of my inner projections, making sense of the allusive passage of time: today disappearing into yesterday and the present becomes the past as soon as we reach the future.

My influences are quite eclectic: I've always been inspired by the French New Wave, poetry, philoshophy, graphic design and photography, sound and image technology in new media, as well as fundamental human experiences, emotions and aspects of consciousness. My fascination for eyes led me to create eye gazing (self)portraits, putting the viewer face to face to a pure eye seduction, a powerful and intimate practice that can help you become closer to another person or in this case, my paintings. After all, eyes are the most expressive facial features, being considered the mirror of the soul. Throughout the years, I have been reinterpreting this element, exploring different techniques and points of view.’ (Andra Anton)
